The State Department in Washington has announced that the Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, will visit Indonesia later this month -- her first trip there since the former President Suharto was forced from office in May.

Details have yet to be finalised, but officials say Mrs Albright will visit Jakarta after attending the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

Mrs Albright is also to visit Thailand.
