Thousands marooned in Indian flash floods
Flash floods in the Indian state of West Bengal near the border with Bangladesh have killed at least four people and left at least 10,000 others homeless.
A West Bengal official Sutanu Kar told the BBC that the flooding was caused by a breach in the embankment of the Kalagachi river following two days of incessant rains in the area. He said seven villages were under water and Indian rescue workers were trying to evacute those still trapped. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
