Egyptian police say they have killed two suspected Muslim fundamentalists in a clash in the southeastern province of Minya.

The shooting broke out when the security forces raided a suspected fundamentalist hideout in the Mallawi region.

Police said two of their own number were wounded.

It's believed to have been the first such clash in Egypt since July.
