Arafat defiant after Bush speech
Yasser Arafat in Ramallah
Arafat is unbowed after Bush's tough speech

Yasser Arafat brushed aside any suggestion that he was about to give up over thirty years of leadership of the Palestinian people because another nation suggested it.

Downing Street pointedly refused to be drawn on the question of Yasser Arafat's continuing in office. In the Commons, Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, said the British Government would deal with whoever the Palestinian people elected.

PM speaks to Sir Crispin Tickell, the former British ambassador to the UN.

Consenting adults

As the Government announces new powers to force people with severe mental illness to receive treatment without their consent, PM is joined live by Health Minister, Jaqui Smith.
