Sri Lankan army quell riots
Sri Lankan officials in the north-eastern district of Trincomalee say army units were called out to prevent rioting between minority Tamils and Muslims.

Police had to separate stone throwing crowds in the town of Muttur after they damaged several shops and attacked two places of worship.

Norwegian ceasefire monitors were called to the area, although the clashes were said to be unrelated to the ongoing truce between government forces and separatist Tamil Tigers.
