Pakistan PM reviews situation in Karachi

The Pakistani Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, has visited the Sindh provincial capital, Karachi, for talks with local officials on law and order.

He said the government would root out terrorist acts in Sindh.

Twenty-six people have been arrested in the city since Friday, for what police call serious crimes.

They also said steps were being taken to seal off routes used for smuggling arms into the city.

The opposition Muttaheda Qami Movement or the MQM, said a-hundred of its members have been arrested.

In the latest act of violence, a retired army officer was shot dead in Karachi on Monday.
