Music festival could have attracted hundreds to area

A farmer who attempted to diversify his business by staging a Glastonbury-style festival in west Wales has been forced to cancel the event.

Bill Davies, had been awarded an entertainment licence for a rock and blues concert despite strong opposition from the police and fire authorities.

But a number of strict conditions were imposed by Pembrokeshire County Council's licensing committee for the event on Mr Davies farm in Llanfyrnach, near Crymych.

The 45-year-old announced on Monday that he was unable to meet the conditions in time for the Music Live festival which had been planned for 26 and 27 July.

But has said he will stage the event next year instead.

During the licensing meeting on 18 June, Mr Davies faced resistance from the police and fire brigade who said he had no experience in dealing with such an event.

But the council took two hours to decide to grant an entertainment licence to Mr Davies on the condition that he conforms to stringent criteria.

Large crowds were expected at Music Live

This included an increase in security for the festival, an improvement to the roadway leading to the land and implementing certain no-go areas.

The event - catering for up to 1000 people - was to be held at Trefawr Farm in Llanfyrnach, in north Pembrokeshire.

Local rock and blues bands were lined up to perform at the event which would have had camping and catering facilities.
