UK troops return from Afghanistan
British troops in Afghanistan
The troops have been in Afghanistan since March
UK troops will return to Britain on Tuesday after serving in Afghanistan with the international peace keeping force.

Armed Forces Minister Adam Ingram will greet more than 120 soldiers from the 1st battalion of the Royal Anglian Regiment.

"The Vikings" as they are known, were deployed in March to replace the 2nd battalion, Parachute Regiment, based in Colchester.

A total of 550 men were sent from the Vikings' Pirbright base in Surrey as part of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

Community duties

The battalion provided security for an interim government in Afghanistan.

They also helped the local community rebuild their world following the demise of the Taleban regime.

The soldiers built a school from scratch and rebuilt an orphanage and trained the local police and rebuilding the Afghan army.

They will arrive at RAF Brize Norton on Tuesday evening.

More troops are due to return from Afghanistan later in the summer as part of plans to scale down British involvement.

About 1,700 Royal Marines will be returning home in August.
