Tuesday, November 3, 1998 Published at 07:29 GMT UK Search for trawler survivors Two fishermen are missing feared drowned after a Spanish trawler sank off the southern coast of Ireland on Monday.
Six other crewmen were rescued by a second Spanish boat, the Argorita, and were understood to be uninjured. The four bodies were recovered as a rescue operation involving British, Irish and French services continued for the missing men. But bad weather, with close to storm force gales, hampered the search teams. The Pesca Lanza was fishing in the area with two other boats. An RAF Nimrod, an Irish rescue helicopter, a fixed-wing spotter plane and an Irish naval craft, as well as fishing boats in the area all joined in the search for survivors. Second fishing accident The accident comes only two days after two fishermen were lost when their trawler sank off Co Donegal. Trawler skipper Michael Jack Boyle, who was married with four children, and his 24-year-old crewman Thomas Moore died when their 36ft vessel went down while on a crab-fishing trip on Saturday. Both men lived in their home port of Rosbeg, County Donegal. |
