Taiwan air crash offer rejected

Relatives of the two-hundred and twenty-five people who were killed in a plane crash off Taiwan last month are reported to have rejected an initial offer of compensation.

After talks in Taipei, an official of China Airlines said the equivalent of three $370,000 had been offered for each victim.

He said some of the families had accepted, but not all.

Some families were reported to be demanding nearly double that amount because of what they describe as a wish to punish the airline.

The airplane crashed into the Taiwan Strait after taking off from Taipei airport.

Investigators have yet to discover the cause.
