CAN FOLLOW BRITAIN SCHROEDER The British government has announced plans to prepare for joining a single European currency.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown, told business leaders that details would be published in January to coincide with the launch of the currency elsewhere in Europe.
It would set out the practical measures needed for Britain to participate early in the new millennium.
Britain says it will join when economic conditions are right.
