Everton promise action against 'morons'

Goodison crowd control faces FA investigation

Everton say police videos will be used to try to identify supporters they believe shamed the club by launching a bottle attack on Manchester United star Peter Schmeichel.

The Goodison Park club have vowed to identify and prosecute fans who attacked the Danish goalkeeper with a hail of plastic bottles at the end of Saturday's 4-1 home Premiership defeat.

Club secretary Michael Dunford has warned fans will be banned for life if they are found guilty.

The FA are waiting for a report on the incident from match referee Peter Jones, which seems certain to result in Everton being charged with failing to control their fans.

Dunford said: "We have apologised unreservedly to Manchester United about the incident.

"We will not tolerate this kind of behaviour from a minority of mindless idiots," he said.

He warned fans found guilty could expect a ban from Goodison: "Everyone at Everton appreciates the tremendous support that we receive home and away, and this season again it has been incredible.

"But that fact isn't going to be remembered because of these morons. This will not be tolerated."

Everton have already been in trouble with the FA this year after a fan got on the pitch during another 4-1 defeat at the end of last season.

That incident during a game against Aston Villa resulted in a severe warning from the FA about future conduct.
