Former champ takes on baton
Barry McGuigan carried the baton into Canterbury
Former world champion boxer Barry McGuigan has carried the Queen's Jubilee baton into Canterbury.
Mr McGuigan, who now lives in Canterbury, held the torch on the leg of the journey through Kent. It will then be taken to Maidstone, Hadlow, Tonbridge and Royal Tunbridge Wells before finishing in Southend-on-Sea at about 1900 BST on Monday. Local people who have been specially nominated will run with the baton.
The first runner on Day 18 was local football club community officer, Stephen Ford, in Brighton, and the last was Mr McGuigan. The baton - which pulses with the runner's heartbeat - has a long journey ahead of it. In 50 days, the baton will have been carried by 5,000 runners through 500 towns and cities in the UK before opening the Commonwealth Games on 25 July. It comes to rest at the opening ceremony of the XVII Commonwealth Games in Manchester. The message inside will be read by the Queen at the opening ceremony.
