What the Scottish Sunday papers say
The Sunday Mail reports that a Royal Scots soldier has become the first confirmed victim of an Iraqi nuclear "dirty" bomb.
The aftermath continues of the French coach crash in which an Ayrshire schoolgirl was killed. The Sunday Post says the driver had been involved in another school bus crash, in Scotland, last month. The Sunday Mirror, The Mail on Sunday and The Sunday Express carry similar reports in their Scottish editions. "Health report slams 'lone wolf doctors'" is the main headline on the front page of Scotland on Sunday. It says the health service in Scotland is in the grip of a staffing crisis which will bring the system to its knees, according to a long-awaited government report on the future of the NHS. The Sunday Telegraph reports that senior officials in the prime minister's office have launched an astonishing attack on America's handling of the hunt for Osama bin Laden and all al-Qaeda fugitives. The Observer carries a headline "Rebellion over plans for ID cards". The story goes on to say that the Home Secretary, David Blunkett, will face a furious rebellion against government policy this week when he calls for a "national debate" on bringing in ID cards for every British resident. The Sunday Times declares that Tony Blair is spending £850,000 on a refurbishment of 10 Downing Street at an estimated cost to the taxpayer of £850,000. And The Sunday Herald says that NHS doctors are telling Scotland's cancer patients that they will have a better chance of survival if they go private.
