Israeli president denied threat to Cyprus

The Israeli president, Ezer Weizman, has said that Israel's military cooperation with Turkey does not represent a a threat to any third country.

Speaking in Nicosia on the first day of a three-day visit to Cyprus, Mr Weizman said that the ties between Israel and Turkey are particularly not a threat to Cyprus.

His visit is the first-ever by an Israeli head of state to Cyprus.

The president of Cyprus, Glafkos Klerides, said he had a frank exchange of views with Mr Weizman on issues of legitimate concern to Cyprus.
