Police appeal after pub shooting
The Manston Pub in Leeds
Police were called to the Manston Pub in Leeds
Police hunting a gunman who injured four people after he opened fire in a busy pub have appealed for the public's help.

West Yorkshire Police received a call shortly before 2230 BST on Sunday reporting a man had entered the Manston Pub, Austhorpe Road, in the Crossgates area of Leeds.

The gunman, who escaped in a waiting car, had injured the pub manager, two doormen and a customer.

Police said the car contained four other people one of whom had a knife.

The police spokesman described the shooting as "indiscriminate" but said the pub had been "targeted".

Motive unclear

The four injured people were taken to hospital.

A police spokeswoman said a 40-year-old man, who is the manager of the pub and was shot in the heel, had discharged himself after treatment.

The three other men, which included two pub doormen and a customer, all aged between 22 and 40, remained in hospital where they were due to undergo surgery.

None of the injured was thought to have life-threatening injuries, the police spokeswoman said.

Detective Superintendent Chris Gregg said the motive for the shooting remained unclear.

'Appeal to customers'

About 30 people were in the pub at the time and Mr Gregg appealed for customers to come forward with information.

"It would appear there is some specific reason why that person came into this pub and began firing in this indiscriminate way," he said.

"I would appeal to customers who were in the pub and have not been spoken to by police to come forward and help us with our inquiries."

He said: "There was an incident an hour before the shooting happened.

"A customer was in dispute with another customer.

"Both left the premises. Whether that has something to do with this we don't know yet."
