Madonna joins tribute to director Parker
Madonna worked with Parker in Evita
Pop star Madonna made a surprise guest appearance in London on Sunday when she joined the stars who turned out to honour British film director Alan Parker, at a celebration of his work.
The singer was attending an event to mark his film making successes organised by the Directors' Guild of Great Britain, which he helped to found, on a boat on the River Thames. The celebratory dinner was attended by numerous stars who the director has worked with over the years, along with other figures from the film world. Among them were Joanna Lumley, Helena Bonham Carter, Jimmy Nail and Derek Jacobi. Film producer Lord Puttnam and director Michael Winner spoke about his achievements to the gathered guests. Mr Parker was close to tears as he accepted the award, which is decided by directors from film, theatre and television. Before attending the Directors' Guild event, Madonna visited a charity event at the Royal Albert Hall in aid of Stonewall, and visited the London Lighthouse AIDS Charity. |
