Adam Price

Date of birth

23 September 1968

Political profile

Adam Price is regarded as one of the rising stars of Plaid Cymru and made its only gain at the 2001 election.

Although only 31 when elected, he has a strong background in the party as a founder of the Federation of Plaid Cymru students and a former director of policy.

Half English, he straddles both faces of the party which is fighting to modernise itself: he is the son of a miner, but pursued a more white-collar career as the director of Newidiem, an economic development consultancy.

He describes himself as "soft-left" and was made the party's treasury and trade and industry spokesman in the Commons.

He has used the platform to speak on behalf of the mining and steel industries.
