Pipe bombs have been used in recent attacks
Two controlled explosions have been carried out on a pipe bomb in Londonderry.

The device was discovered by a pedestrian at the junction of Upper Bennett Street and Abercorn Road at 0630 BST on Sunday.

The alarm was raised and Army bomb disposal experts were called to the scene.

The road was cordoned off while the security operation continued until the device was declared safe following the controlled explosions.

It has not been established who was behind the attack.
