Peace agreement for war-torn Guinea-Bissau

An agreement's been announced to end the civil war in the West African state of Guinea-Bissau.

It follows talks between the warring parties in the Nigerian capital, Abuja.

The Gambian foreign minister, Sedat Jobe - who's been mediating between the two sides - says the accord was signed by President Vieira and the rebel leader, Ansumane Mane.

He told the BBC that all foreign troops will be withdrawn and replaced by a West African ECOMOG peacekeeping force.

Guinea Bissau's air and sea ports will be opened to allow in humanitarian relief.

And a government of national unity will be formed, including representatives of the rebels, with general and presidential elections held by the end of March next year.
