Kagwe and Fiacconi win New York marathons


Athletics: This year's New York men's marathon has been won for the second successive year by the Kenyan runner, John Kagwe.

Kagwe won the race with a sprint finish to complete the event in a time of two hours, eight minutes and forty-four second.

Last year's runner-up, another Kenya, Joseph Chebet was again second with Tanzania's Zebedayo Bayo third.

The women's marathon was won by Italy's Franca Fiacconi who led for most of the race, completing the distance in two hours, twenty-five minutes and seventeen seconds.

Mexico's Adriana Fernandez was second with the twice-winner, Tegla Loroupe of Kenya in third place.
