The organiser of the German protest Thomas von Treichel said some six thousand Internet sites had gone blank during Sunday's protest, and more than seven million Internet users in Germany had been urged to stay offline.
Last month Internet users in Spain, through a series of protests, pressed the government and the main telephone company into reviewing pricing policy.
