Gazza makes low key return

The Riverside crowd hail the return of their hero

Middlesbrough 1-1 Nottingham Forest

BBC Radio 5 Live final whistle match report
Forest's Marlon Harewood squeezed in a late volley to earn his side a deserved point and overshadow Paul Gascoigne's return.

Gascoigne received a walm welcome from the fans as he stepped on the pitch after 16 days in hospital dealing with his personal problems.

Brian Deane gives 'Boro the lead
"It's good to be back," he said.

However, Gascoigne's performance was less than sparkling and he was taken off in the second half.

Brian Deane put Boro ahead with his first goal for the club, stroking home Andy Townend's long through-ball in the 21st minute.

The home side had enough chances to add another, but Forest rallied.

Forest drew level two minutes from time when Harewood ran on to a short ball over the top and somehow toe-poked a shot under goalkeeper Marlon Beresford.

Harewood gives Forest a late equaliser
The pressure was on Boro for the last moments as Forest went all out for three points.

Chris Bart Williams almost managed it, but hit the post. Then Harewood failed to lob the keeper with a misjudged shot.

The result lifts Boro to fourth in the table.
