Bangladesh is to cut import duty on onions in response to shortages in India which have forced up prices in Bangladesh.

The price of onions in Bangladesh has nearly doubled in the last few days following a ban on exports by the Indian government.

The tariff cut of fifteen per cent is designed to encourage imports from other sources.

There are reports of attacks on warehouses in North India, where traders are accused of hoarding onions and other staples.
