Boro faithful hoping for Gazza return

Gascoigne: Late fitness test

Paul Gascoigne could make an emotional return to the Middlesbrough side in Sunday's home match against struggling Nottingham Forest.

There is no guarantee that 30-year-old Gascoigne, back in training after 16 days in hospital after recovering from his personal problems, will appear.

He will have a late fitness test but is rated as 60-40 against playing as is his fellow midfielder Robbie Mustoe.

Forest striker Neil Shipperley was cup-tied for the mid-week clash with Cambridge but should return.

Pierre van Hooijdonk will not be considered as he only resumed training on Friday after ending his three month strike.

The Dutch international who demanded to be sold before the season has returned with the club deep in the Premiership relegation zone.
