The European Commission says it is taking court action against eight European Union member countries over individual agreements they have concluded with the United States to liberalise air traffic arrangements.
The Commissioner for Transport, Neil Kinnock, said separate accords weakened the European Union's position in any future negotiations for a Europe-wide open skies agreement.
The countries concerned are Britain, Belgium, Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany Luxembourg and Sweden.
