Vialli's triumph marred by cards

Chelsea 4-1 Aston Villa

A superb hat-trick by player manager Gianluca Vialli secured a crushing victory against the Premiership leaders in the third round of the Worthington Cup.

But the cup holders' triumph was marred when Dennis Wise was sent off in the 87th minute for an ugly two-footed tackle.

Vialli's name quickly followed into the referee's notebook as he earned himself a yellow card for demonstrating his disgust at Wise's sending-off.

Earlier, Villa took the lead when Mark Draper's deflected free kick hit home.

Chelsea equalised when Vialli latched onto Celestine Babayaro's pass.

The Italian put Chelsea ahead with a wonderful turn and shot. He completed his hat-trick five minutes from time after Tore Andre Flo had added a third.

The Blues now go on to meet Arsenal in the fourth round.
