Julie Ward murder trial to go ahead in Kenya

The Kenyan High Court has asked the chief justice to name a judge and set a date for the trial of the former game park warden accused of murdering the British tourist, Julie Ward, in the Maasai Mara game reserve ten years ago.

Simon Ole Makallah denied murdering Miss Ward when he appeared before the High Court last week.

Lawyers for both sides have requested that the trial be conducted on a daily basis rather than once a week as is the case with many Kenyan trials.

This is the second trial for Julie Ward's murder.

In June 1992 two park rangers were acquitted of killing her.
