A US human rights group supports a detained Islamic cleric in Iran

An American human rights group, Lawyers Committee for Human Rights, has called for the release of a Shi'ite Muslim cleric, who was detained in Iran four months ago on unspecified charges.

The Committee said the cleric, Mohsen Saeidzadeh, was being held because of his views on women's rights.

He's said to have published articles urging a more liberal interpretation of Islamic laws on women.
