Radebe in contract talks with Leeds

Lucas Radebe (right): Hoping to stay put

Leeds captain Lucas Radebe has begun contract talks which could lead him staying at Elland Road for the remainder of his playing career.

United chairman Peter Ridsdale and Radebe's financial adviser Gary Blumberg have opened negotiations which could see the South African international sign a three-year extension to his contract.

Radebe has another 18 months of his current deal to run, with a potentially lucrative Bosman transfer looming at the end of next season.

The 29-year-old has quickly built a reputation as one of the Premiership's top centre-backs and is attracting the attention of other top clubs.

But Leeds' new manager David O'Leary has made it clear he wants to retain Radebe's services.

Radebe said he was confident an agreement would be reached.

"It's been a great time for me, both this season and last season, and I've settled well in Leeds," he said.

"Everything is going well. The fans love me, and I love them as well.

"I've done well for the club and I still want to do the best I can and I will always do the best I can for Leeds."
