Hong Kong gangland trial ending

The trial of the alleged Hong Kong gangster Cheung Tze-Keung, known as Big Spender, has entered its final stages in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou.

Cheung and more than thirty others face charges of armed robbery, smuggling weapons and kidnapping.

A lawyer for Cheung said he still wants the case moved to Hong Kong, where there is no death penalty, but prosecutors say the crimes were planned on the mainland and must be tried there.
