Truth report drops de Klerk criticism

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa says it has removeed criticism of the last president of the apartheid era, F.W. de Klerk, from its final report, after Mr de Klerk threatened to challlenge it in court.

The report, which is due to be handed to President Nelson Mandela tomorrow , was expected to be highly critical of Mr de Klerk, his National Party and its political allies.

They've accused the Commission of being biased, and earlier in the day, Mr de Klerk launched a last-minute bid to prevent publication of findings against him.

The Commission has also given advance notice to the African National Congress that it will be found guilty of gross human rights abuse and inexcusable crimes.
