More demos in Jakarta

More than a thousand students have demonstrated in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, against plans to draft new electoral guidelines which they say favour supporters of the deposed President Suharto.

The new measures -- seen as a key factor in the return to democracy in Indonesia -- are to be discussed at a special session of the People's Consultative Assembly next month.

Protestors called for the handover of power to a transitional government.

They blocked a number of roads around parliament, but were prevented by armed police from approaching the building.
