An Italian express train has been derailed outside Rome, injuring eleven people.

The overnight Palermo-Milan train was travelling at a speed of one-hundred-and-and-twenty kilometres an hour, when fifteen of its carriages came off the rails.

There were four-hundred passengers on board the train at the time.

There are reports that points failure was to blame.
