The British minister in charge of Welsh affairs , Ron Davies, has resigned after a night-time incident in London.
Mr Davies has given few details of what happened, except to say that he was robbed at knifepoint of his car, wallet and mobile telephone by a man he met in a park.
A spokesman for the prime minister denied there was any kind of sexual encounter involved.
The BBC's Political Correspondent says the incident seems certain to wreck Mr Davies' career only weeks after he'd been chosen as Labour's candidate for First Minister of the new Welsh Assembly being elected next year.
