Strike in Kashmir

Reports from Indian-administered Kashmir say a general strike called by the separatist all-party Hurriyat Conference affected normal life in most parts of the Kashmir valley.

The group had called the strike to mark the fifty-first anniversary of the arrival of Indian troops in the state.

Police detained four separatist leaders and broke up a demonstration.

Meanwhile, Indian defence authorities said their troops had repulsed a second attack this week from Pakistani forces on a military post on the Siachen Glacier.
