Tuesday, October 27, 1998 Published at 15:36 GMT World: Americas Colombia strike resolved The Colombian government has reached agreement with trade unions representing some eight hundred thousand public sector employees to put an end to a three week old strike. The agreement, which was reached after three days of mediation by the Roman Catholic church, will give the workers pay increases of fifteen per cent next year, one per cent less than this year's predicted inflation rates. The government has also agreed not to withhold the pay of workers who took part in the stoppage. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
