Left extremist violence in Andhra Pradesh

Police in the south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh say left-wing extremists bombed and set fire to several houses at Konganapally village in Anantapur district, killing seven people and wounding many others.

All the victims were reported to be members of the state's ruling Telugu Desam party.

Police say the attacks are an act of reprisal for the killing of an activist of the outlawed extremist Peoples War Group organisation in January.
