Chile military visit postponed

Two Chilean admirals have postponed a visit to Britain for talks on the possible purchase of three frigates as a result of General Pinochet's detention in London.

The British Ministry of Defence said the Chilean navy considered the visit inappropriate in the circumstances.

Meanwhile leaders of the Chilean armed forces held a meeting in the Chilean capital Santiago to discuss a co-ordinated response to the arrest of General Pinochet, which has divivded public opinion in Chile.
