The trainer, whose horses have won the Grand National twice, was diagnosed with cancer in June. Her doctors have said the treatment was completely successful and she is now clear of the disease. Mrs Pitman, 52, told the Daily Star newspaper: "I'm still having treatment but I'm really OK now. "I feel fine. And no, smoking wasn't the cause.
Mrs Pitman became the first female trainer to win the Grand National when Corbiere claimed the title in 1983. She won at Aintree again 12 years later with Royal Athlete. Other highlights in a career littered with prestigious wins include winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup with Burrough Hill Lad in 1984 and again with Garrison Savannah in 1991. She has in fact completed a grand slam of grand nationals, taking the Scottish with Willsford, the Welsh three times with Corbiere, Burrough Hill Lad and Stearsby and the Irish National with Mudahim. |
