Israelis close Hebron after killings

The Israeli army has sealed off the West Bank town of Hebron and imposed a partial curfew after an Israeli settler was found shot dead by suspected Palestinian militants.

In an apparent revenge killing, the body of a Palestinian man has also been discovered near an Israeli settlement close to Nablus.

Hundreds of Israeli settlers converged on the home of the prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, to protest against the settler's death; they were dispersed by police.

Later Mr Netanyahu condemned the killing, saying the Palestinian authorities must deal with the infrastructure of terrorism, as had been agreed in last week's peace agreement.

The Israeli government earlier comfortably defeated a no-confidence motion put forward by a far right-wing party opposed to the peace deal.
