A leading trade unionist in Albania, Astrit Balluku, the president of the Independent Trade Unions of Albania, has been shot and killed in an exchange of gunfire in the capital, Tirana.
Police say he was killed in a gunbattle between opposing factions at the union headquarters and that two other trade unionists were wounded.
Reports say the two factions were at loggerheads over leadership issues.
