Police in Switzerland are studying a request from the Geneva public prosecutor for General Pinochet's arrest.
It follows a complaint by the widow of Alexis Jaccard, a student who had dual Swiss-Chilean nationality and disappeared in May 1977.
A BBC Correspondent in Geneva says it is up to the Swiss Justice Ministry to decide if it wants to make a separate extradition demand.
Meanwhile, in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, three Chilean exiles have reported General Pinochet to the police, alleging involvement in the kidnapping and murder of members of their families.
