Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) - Western Australia - Perth

With the addition of Perth to the rota during the MCC tour of 1970-71 Australia gained another fine Test ground.

For many years the Western Australian Cricket Association (known colloquially as the "wacker") was generally regarded as among the fastest in the world.

But more recently the wickets have tended to be slower offering generous movement to medium-paced bowling.

The "Fremantle Doctor" - the name given to the stiff cooling breeze which blows from the Swan river during the middle of the day - provides off-spin bowlers with something to harness.

The extra energy required to bowl into the Doctor is considerable - the task often being given to youngsters or the more dogged bowlers.
