Monday, October 26, 1998 Published at 05:48 GMT World: Asia-Pacific Cambodia opens landmine conference Cambodia has opened an international conference on landmine clearance by pledging to introduce a law as soon as possible banning the use and possession of such mines. Cambodia is one of the most heavily mined countries in the world with five million still littering the countryside. The BBC Phnom Penhcorrespondent says it has made great strides in clearing mined areas and educating people about the dangers. And the conference will give it the opportunity to share its experiences with delegates from thirty other countries from Afghanistan and Bosnia to Mozambique.
