Egyptian radical dies in Albanian shoot-out

A suspected Islamic militant from Egypt has been found dead in the Albanian capital, Tirana, after a shoot-out with the police.

A police spokesman said the man, Salah Muhamed El-Said, who was married to an Albanian woman, killed himself in a moment of mental crisis.

The Albanian news agency said Mr El-Said was an associate of the Saudi Islamic radical, Osma bin Laden.

It said he had been under surveillance by the American Central Intelligence Agency since an unsuccessful attempt to bomb the United States embassy in Tirana in July.

Albania deported four Islamic militants to Egypt following the disclosure of the plot.
