Sunday, October 25, 1998 Published at 16:37 GMT World: Africa African ministers due to start peace talks on DR Congo Ministers from fourteen African governments have begun arriving in Zambia for two days of talks to try to find a solution to the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They will try to arrange a ceasefire between the forces of President Laurent Kabila and the Tutsi-led rebels who took up arms against his government in August. Zimbabwe is continuing to build up its forces in the DRC - a move which has angered South Africa which is seeking a diplomatic solution to the crisis. In the latest violence, nine people were shot dead over the weekend in an attack on the rebel stronghold of Goma. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
