Kinnear facing trouble after 'thick' jibe ![]() Joe Kinnear: Forthright opinions over referees Wimbledon manager Joe Kinnear could face a reprimand from the Football Association after calling an assistant referee "thick" after Saturday's 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough. Kinnear's criticism of Mike North followed two incidents at Selhurst Park. Middlesbrough's second goal from Hamilton Ricard was allowed to stand despite a strong offside appeal and then Marcus Gayle's late effort for the Dons was adjudged to have not crossed the line. He said: "It's difficult, I don't know if it's because he's too thick. "Maybe we were too smart or too quick for him but I think we were robbed of three goals. "If he's trying to become a referee, he should be told not to. In the end, he's done us more damage than Middlesbrough. "He said for Hamilton Ricard's goal that Brian Deane was not interfering with play in the penalty box. What's he doing there, then?" He said TV pictures showed that Gayle should have completed a hat trick when his late attempt was gathered by Middlesbrough keeper Marlon Beresford. "If the linesman's up to scratch, he'll see that sort of thing," said the Wimbledon boss. FA spokesman Adrian Bevington said: "If Joe Kinnear has any complaints about an official for a match, there are proper channels for him to make his complaint. "He complies a report after every game and he's entitled to make his comments on that. Every football club is aware of that." History of criticism The incident is not the first involving Kinnear criticising a match official. Most recently he criticised David Elleray after the referee gave two penalties and sent off Wimbledon's Carl Leaburn at Villa Park. Elleray had changed his shirt for a white Villa top because of a clash of colours with Wimbledon's dark blue strip. Kinnear made a suitably cutting remark about the referee's colours after the game, and complained about past run-ins with Elleray. Last season he asked for referee Steve Dunn to be replaced for an FA Cup replay after he had disallowed another Gayle effort at the final whistle. That request was turned down. |
