Goodway opts for uncapped element

Lee Gilmour has earned his place in the squad

Great Britain coach Andy Goodway has included six uncapped players in a 23-man squad announced today for the Lincoln Test series against New Zealand.

The newcomers are Australian-based front row forward Harvey Howard, who has been playing on loan with Bradford, Sheffield prop Dale Laughton, Wigan's Young Player of the Year Lee Gilmour and the Leeds trio of Darren Fleary, Terry Newton and Francis Cummins.

A surprising absentee is Eagles prop Paul Broadbent, who played in all three Tests against Australia 12 months ago and was part of Goodway's original squad.

Wigan front rower Neil Cowie was a last-minute inclusion following an impressive performance in last night's 10-4 Grand Final victory over Leeds.

The squad, captained by Wigan loose forward Andy Farrell, will go into camp on Sunday to prepare for Saturday's first Test at Huddersfield's McAlpine Stadium.
