Mixed reaction to Middle East peace deal

There's been an angry reaction to the new Middle East peace accord from Jewish settlers in the West Bank and from hardliners in Israel's coalition government.

They say the agreement, signed in Washington yesterday Friday amounts to treason and surrender.

And the settlers say they again plan to block roads throughout the West Bank on Sunday.

The BBC Jerusalem correspondent says hardline Palestinians are determined to wreck the agreement - for they know they will be the first target of Yasser Arafat's promised security measures.Elsewhere the accord signed by Mr Arafat and the Israeli prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu has been welcomed at the UN, by European Union nations and by Russia.

Syria however called it a surrender of Palestinian rights.
